MASH: Rare Loretta Swit Stories That Will Make You Cry

Loretta Swit regaled audiences with her portrayal of the alternatively feisty and vulnerable Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on MASH. More than 100 million people viewed the final episode, Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. Some cities even reported sewage issues when loads of viewers went to the bathroom at the same time when the credits began to roll.

Loretta Swit takes viewers behind the scenes with emotional stories about her time working with MASH cast and crew like Alan Alda, Larry Linville, and Gene Reynolds. She ended the interview abruptly, overcome by feelings stirred up by talking about her MASH “family.” You might get emotional too.

100-year-old diary from Utahn in WWI gives rare insight

One hundred years ago, the only known Mormon to have kept a diary while serving in World War I recorded his first entry.

“One can never tell what the morrow will bring and the record of the few weeks I have been in the army might interest some one,” wrote Nels Anderson on June 9, 1918, five months before World War I would end on Nov. 11, 1918.

Park is an assistant professor of history at Sam Houston University and the author of “American Nationalisms: Imagining Union in the Age of Revolutions, 1783-1833.” He has also written about the political culture of Navuoo in the 1840s, and previously served as a Visiting Fellow with the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Studies at BYU.
